Wolves In Sheep’s Clothing
A big part of the problem in fighting for health care reform is battling the pharmaceutical companies. It doesn’t matter if you’re talking about the best diet pills or the latest in cancer treatments, the fact of the matter is drug companies enjoy a huge profit margin, wield one of the strongest lobbying groups in Washington, and have a large stake in how health care reform shakes out in the States.
Although there are many programs from drug companies to help cover the costs of medication in this country, the truth is it’s just a placebo. Drug prices here in the United States, where most of the research and processing occurs, are higher than in any other country.
Therefore, it’s very disturbing to read about an agreement between President Obama and the drug companies. While this looks good on the surface, I have to wonder what’s in it for the pharmaceutical companies. Because to me, they are simply wolves in sheep’s clothing.
