Sarah Palin, Miss Congeniality

You know, I stay out of politics, for the most part, but this pick of McCain‘s for his running mate has me scratching my head.

I’m all for more estrogen in the white house, Amen Amen. And I’ve often said, if you want to clean that place up, put in a woman. I still think that way.

What scares me about Sarah Palin is 1) she doesn’t have much experience, and with McCain’s health in question (the guy is 72 with melanoma, for the love of jayzus) it’s a strong possibility she may have to step into the Big Shoes. She’s publicly stated she doesn’t know what the VP job entails, and she has no foreign policy. Two stints as mayor of a small town and one as a governor (and not even a full term yet) does not qualify you to lead this country, I’m sorry. I’m all for putting someone in there that’s not caught up in the cesspool of Washington politics, but you have to know SOMETHING of what’s going on, or they’re going to eat you. The Top Ten Things I Hate About Getting Older

The top ten things I hate about getting older….

1. Hair. Not the hair on my head, but the hair that has appeared on various body parts where it never grew before. It’s a part-time job waxing, plucking, tweezing and shaving places ( some of them very sensitive places! ) just trying to keep up with the daily crop so I’m not mistaken for a Yeti and shot. Second Marriages — Sticking Your Head In The Lion’s Mouth

You know, my friends and I talk about this a lot in our Chick Chat Sessions. One friend has been married three times, and I really have to give her huge props for that, and for surviving the Aftermath. I know for a fact I cannot do that again. I don’t know if I could take on the old ball and chain, even knowing intellectually I am (theoretically) smarter for the first experience, and that not all guys are the same. Well, except for the penis thing. That’s just a given. Read the rest of this entry »

RipoffReport.Com

August18

How many times have you been sitting up late at night looking for something decent to watch on the RipOffReport.Comtelevision but all that’s on are Infomercials? I’ll be the first to admit that sometimes I stop to watch a few minutes. Sometimes I even find myself getting sucked in.

The product commercials are bearable. I’ve even purchased a gadget just based on an Infomercial. The gadget was basically a self-powered food processor that promised to make my life easier. In reality, it was a poor substitution for the real thing. It didn’t crush ice, like they claimed, and the blades didn’t chop everything as easily as they showed. In fact, you could only put a small amount of food inside at a time. It did come in handy for chopping onions, mushrooms, making my guacamole and shredding my quesadilla chicken, so I did get use out of it.

Feeling Green — The Problem Of Junk Mail

August14

The problem is huge and planet-wide, and it’s easy to feel helpless and like nothing you do matters. How many drops does it take to fill a bucket? What can you do to be a part of the solution and not the problem? It’s easier than you think to contribute to the well-being of Mother Earth, and it’s the little things that count. Over 40 and Going Gray

August11

lala's gray hairIt’s the age-old question; why is it that when a woman starts to gray, she’s considered old, but when a man starts to gray, he suddenly looks “distinguished?”

It all goes back to that ancient, genetic (inbred) instinct of procreation. Younger women, pretty women were the best bet for furthering the species. So why is it that in today’s modern society, where people choose not to have children at all, nothing has changed?

I guess it boils down to “old habits die hard” and preconceived notions that have more lives than Dick Clark.

Well, I am here to say that going gray doesn’t bother me one bit. Since the age of thirty, I’ve had two gray hairs clinging stubbornly to the top of my head. In the last few years, they seem to be spawning and multiplying like rabbits.

Insurance is Assurance for Women Over Forty

August8

The National Program on Women and Aging estimates that the average cost of nursing home care across the country is between $40,000 to $80,000 a year. That breaks down to $100-$200 a day. Even though Medicare was put in place partly to cover those unexpected long care costs, most people don’t know that long-term health care is not covered by Medicare or other general health insurance policies.

Individuals only consider this type of insurance when about to reach retirement age. However, it’s beneficial to start thinking about it at a younger age because better coverage is available for healthy individuals. You wouldn’t want to wait until your late 60’s or early 70’s. Often by then, due to the aging process, chronic illnesses and conditions may already be affecting your health.

A Heavenly Partnership

August7

Is there anything better than sex?

Just like a sexual relationship between two people, both coffee and chocolate are passionate partners. You can have one or the other, but put them together and that’s where the real magic begins.

I can’t start my day without coffee. Sorry, can’t do it. It’s ugly and people get hurt. I have two coffee makers, just in case one malfunctions. I’m picky about coffee, too. I need it fresh, I need it hot, and I need it now. Fresh roasted coffee beans are preferred. All I desire is that first cup in the morning, and I’m good to go. Now and then, I indulge in a pick-me-up in the form of a latte or cappuchino during an intense writing session, but normally I practice moderation. Although, I can be tempted, and bribed, by the enticing aroma of roasted coffee beans or the heavenly fragrance of gourmet coffee perking in my coffee brewer.

Welcome to Over Forty and Loving It! We’re just getting started, but we’re bringing women over forty the information they need and want. With our hormones deserting us, our kids leaving the house, we believe women should look forward to this stage of their lives. It’s not always pretty, not always easy, but we feel if you just keep an open mind, along with a wicked sense of humor, it can be fun.

You might be wondering, who are we? We’re two old friends who have nearly a hundred years of experience between us. We’ve both worked as nurses, as writers, love music and enjoy traveling whenever possible.  We know the joys and devastation of relationships. So here we are! Enjoy!
